Organisch Katoen in Jeans: De Slimme Keuze voor Stijl en Planeet - Delft Denim

Organic Cotton in Jeans: The Smart Choice for Style and Planet

At Delft Denim we believe it is important to make the very best trousers for you. This not only means making trousers that look stylish, but we also take the production method into account. We want to keep our burden on the environment as minimal as possible and have therefore chosen to have our fabrics made from organic cotton. Not just any substance, but a true game changer in the fashion world.

What is it?

Organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides or fertilizers. Think of cotton as Mother Nature intended: pure, unprocessed and free of chemicals. The organic cotton used in our fabrics is also grown by the fabric manufacturer itself. In a field near the factory. This saves transport costs, emissions and whatnot.

The advantages

Why is this miracle substance such a game changer for the industry? Well, organic cotton, especially compared to conventional, non-organic cotton, has many environmental benefits, namely:

  • Less Water Use: Organic cotton requires much less water than traditional cotton. We are frugal with every drop.
  • No Chemicals: This means less pollution in our rivers and air. Clean and bright, just the way we like it.
  • Better Soil Health: Organic cotton improves the fertility of the soil, instead of depleting it
  • Better Working Conditions: Farmers involved in organic cotton production work under better working conditions. Organic certifications can also ensure fair trade practices
  • Hypoallergenic: Organic cotton is often hypoallergenic because it is grown without the use of chemicals that can cause allergies.

Why it makes you happy too
Now you may be wondering: 'nice for the environment, but are there also benefits for me?'. Yes, there are. A selection of the benefits for you:

  • Less exposure to chemicals: Because organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides, you are less exposed to harmful substances, which is beneficial for your health
  • Gentler on the skin: Organic cotton is considered softer than conventional cotton. Very pleasant for people with sensitive skin.
  • Environmental awareness: Organic cotton allows you to make environmentally conscious choices. If you value sustainability and environmental friendliness, this is one way to contribute to environmental conservation.
  • Better moisture management: Organic cotton has the natural ability to absorb and transport moisture well. This can help regulate your body temperature making you feel comfortable.
  • Sustainability: Organic cotton products are often sustainably produced, which can result in longer preservation of your garments.

A downside of organic cotton is the fact that it is more limited in availability than conventional cotton and that production costs are higher. This means that the trousers are more expensive to produce and you therefore pay a higher price for Delft Denim trousers than if you buy your trousers from, for example, H&M, Vero Moda or Zara. The investment is therefore slightly larger, but then you really get something.

Green Yarn, Blue Jeans
At Delft Denim we don't stop at 'just good enough'. We strive for the best - for you and the planet. In Just when you think it can't get any more sustainable, we have found a way to go one step further. In addition to organic cotton, we also use organic cotton in our trousers pre-consumer recycled cotton. What is that? This is cotton that is recovered from production residues. Pieces of fabric that did not make it into the garment at the factory, so to speak. Reusing these substances is a smart way to reduce waste and extend the life cycle of materials. We will tell you more about this in our next blog.

A cleaner future
Delft Denim is proud to be at the forefront of the march towards a more sustainable fashion world. By making our trousers from organic and recycled cotton, we are taking a step towards a greener and cleaner future for you and our planet. Will you walk with us?
