Organic Cotton in Jeans: The Sustainable Choice for Style and Planet

At Delft Denim, we believe it is important to create the very best pants for you. This means not only making pants that look stylish, but we also take into account the way they are produced. We want to keep our impact on the environment as minimal as possible, which is why we have chosen to have our fabrics made from organic cotton. Not just any fabric, but a true game changer in the fashion world.

What is organic cotton?

Organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Think of cotton as Mother Nature intended: pure, unprocessed, and free from chemicals. The organic cotton used in our fabrics is also grown by the fabric producer themselves. In a field close to the factory. This saves on transport costs, emissions, and much more.

What are the benefits of organic cotton?

Why is this miracle substance so game changer 'for the industry? Well, organic cotton has, especially in comparison to conventional, non-organic cotton, an incredible number of advantages for the environment, namely:'

  • Less Water Use: Organic cotton requires much less water than traditional cotton. We are careful with every drop.
  • No Chemicals: 'This means less pollution in our rivers and air. Clean and clear, just as we like it.'
  • Better Soil Health: Organic cotton improves soil fertility instead of depleting it.
  • Better Working Conditions: Farmers involved in the production of organic cotton work under better working conditions. Organic certifications can also ensure fair trade practices.
  • HypoallergenicBiological cotton is often hypoallergenic because it is grown without the use of chemicals that can cause allergies.

"Why you will also be happy with organic cotton in your clothing"

"Now you might be wondering: 'Great for the environment, but are there any benefits for me?'. Certainly, there are. Here are some of the benefits for you:"

  • Less exposure to chemicals: "Because organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides, you are less exposed to harmful substances, which is beneficial for your health."
  • Softer for the skin: Organic cotton is considered softer than conventional cotton. Very pleasant for people with sensitive skin.
  • Environmental awareness: Organic cotton allows you to make environmentally conscious choices. If you value sustainability and eco-friendliness, this is a way to contribute to environmental conservation.
  • Better moisture management: Organic cotton has the natural property of absorbing and wicking moisture well. This can help regulate your body temperature, making you feel comfortable.
  • Sustainability: Biological cotton products are often produced sustainably, which can result in longer preservation of your garments.

One downside of organic cotton is the fact that it is less available than conventional cotton and that the production costs are higher. This means that the pants are more expensive to produce, and you pay a higher price for a Delft Denim pair of pants than if you were to get your pants from, for example, H&M, Vero Moda, or Zara. The investment is therefore somewhat greater, but then you really have something.

Green Yarn, Blue Jeans

At Delft Denim, we don't settle for 'just good enough'. We strive for the best - for you and the planet. In 'Just when you think it can't get any more sustainable, we have found a way to take it a step further. In addition to organic cotton, we also use in our pants' pre-consumer recycled cotton. What is that again? That is cotton that is reclaimed from production waste. Pieces of fabric that didn't make it into the garment in the factory, so to speak. Reusing these fabrics is a smart way to reduce waste and extend the lifecycle of materials. In our next blog, we will tell you more about this.

A cleaner future

Delft Denim consciously tries to look at what we can do to reduce the impact of our clothing on the environment. By making our pants from organic and recycled cotton, we are taking a step towards a greener and cleaner future for you and our planet. Will you walk with us?
